This disc could have been planned a lot better. There was room for all of Ginastera's significant piano music (the Third Sonata, the remainder of the American Preludes, and several other pieces are missing), instead of the fillers by Spanish composers. But Santiago Rodriguez's performances are so persuasive, I have to recommend the disc anyway. He tears into the virtuosic Sonata No. 1–a real thriller–with such energy and fearlessness that it will make your hair stand up, and he plays the remaining works, including the ones by other composers, with wonderful color and rhythm.
