Sporting a hot new track along with five remixes,
The Pimp is one of three late 2002 EPs from Fatboy Slim (
Camber Sands and
Illuminati are the others) based on material from his 2000 record,
Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars. A potential mainstay on any DJ's deck, the deeply funky title track plays a lascivious, electronically altered Bootsy Collins (who also shows up on
Illuminati) vocal off a rumbling bassline, producing a fun, sleazy sound. The remixes are of a similar bent, offering grubby, sweaty takes on “Drop the Hate” and “Retox,” along with a swaggering version of
Halfway's overplayed yet still potent “Star 69.” The “Midfield General's Disco Reshuffle Mix” of “Talkin' 'bout My Baby” uses a passionate vocal sample to deliver a lo-fi jolt, ending this short and sultry workout on a relatively wholesome note.
